Excerpt: pricing a monthly bookkeeping package.

The customer's question was: “Can I charge $400 a month for monthly bookkeeping in my county, and what would I need to include?” Below are the two pages that answer it. In a real brief every row cites a public source and the date it was checked.

Page 2 · Recommendation

Charge $400 with a dated promise, not a feature list.

Finding. In this illustrative set, $400 sits above the online services and between the two local firms. The local firms justify their price with a person to call; the online services compete on price and dashboards.

What $400 needs to include. A monthly close by a fixed date, a named person who answers within one business day, and a short monthly report. None of the five options in the table promise all three.

Risk. Owners comparing on price alone will pick Option D. Do not chase them; the promise above is the differentiator.

Next step. Put the dated promise on the pricing page, run it for 90 days, and track close rate on quotes.
